Ring Chime Not Working? Here Are the Common Causes
Published on August 24, 2025
The Ring Chime is a great accessory that lets you hear your doorbell ring inside your home. If it suddenly stops working, here are a few things you can check before calling for support.
1. It's Unplugged or Has No Power
This might seem obvious, but it's a common issue. The Chime might have been accidentally unplugged, or the outlet it's plugged into might not be working.
- Solution: Make sure the Chime is securely plugged into a working outlet. Try plugging another device, like a lamp, into the same outlet to confirm it has power.
2. Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues
Just like the doorbell itself, the Ring Chime needs a stable Wi-Fi connection to work. If it can't connect to your network, it won't ring.
- Solution: Check the device health in your Ring app. If it shows as "Offline," try moving it to an outlet closer to your router. You may need to go through the "Reconnect to Wi-Fi" steps in the app.
3. Incorrect Settings in the Ring App
It's possible that the alert settings for your Chime have been accidentally turned off. You can control which alerts (motion vs. doorbell rings) your Chime responds to.
- Solution: Open the Ring app and tap on your Chime device. Go to Audio Settings > Chime Alerts. Make sure that the alerts for "Rings" are toggled on. You can also check "Motion Alerts" if you want it to chime for motion, too.
