Why Is My Ring Doorbell Offline? (And How to Fix It)

Published on August 24, 2025

One of the most common and frustrating issues Ring users face is their device suddenly going offline. When this happens, you can't get notifications or see live video. Here are the primary reasons this happens and what you can do about it.

1. Poor Wi‑Fi Connection

This is the number one cause. If your Wi‑Fi router is too far from your doorbell, or if there are thick walls in between, the signal can be too weak.

  • Check Signal Strength: In the Ring app, go to "Device Health" to check your Wi‑Fi signal strength (RSSI). A good signal is typically better than -60.
  • Solution: Try moving your router closer to the doorbell. If that's not possible, consider getting a Wi‑Fi extender like the Ring Chime Pro to boost the signal.

2. Power Issues

If your Ring Doorbell's battery is completely drained, it will go offline. For hardwired devices, a power outage or a tripped breaker could be the culprit.

  • For Battery Devices: Check the battery level in the Ring app. If it's low, remove the battery and recharge it fully using the provided USB cable.
  • For Hardwired Devices: Check your circuit breaker to ensure it hasn't tripped. Also, make sure all wiring is secure and not damaged.

3. Incorrect Wi‑Fi Password

If you've recently changed your Wi‑Fi password or network name (SSID), your Ring device will disconnect and won't be able to reconnect until you update it with the new credentials.

  • Solution: In the Ring app, go to your device settings and follow the steps to "Reconnect to Wi‑Fi" or "Change Wi‑Fi Network," making sure to enter the new password correctly.
